Honestly this item is becoming a paper weight. I can hardly do anything with it and it is up to date (even though the last update took a few days because it kept dropping my wifi, major issue).
1- I ask it something and most of the time it does the dots and then stops.
2- I ask it to analyze a picture and it says “let me take a look” and then never gets back to me, sometimes it even starts to when i click to take a new picture.
3- Why can’t this have long term memory in the “rabbit hole”? It acts like it can and then forgets. Also Openai already has this feature so need to get it asap.
4- many answers are just vague and wrong. gpt4o is just so much better and this needs to get to that level asap. Didnt a new open source from Meta come out that can compete?
5- When will this thing be able to link to emails, alarms, notes, and apps like smartthings to control your house like the Amazon Alexa. These are some of the most basic already in the market actions it should be able to do.
Hopefully the team is also looking into having models downloaded on the device for simple tasks? then have RAG setup for various tasks…
That’s a bummer that you are not having a good time using your R1. I am not experiencing the same challenges (although you will read some others indicate the same as you, and me, mixed bag). My experiences related to your topics are:
- This happens to me sometimes, but not often. I find it happens when my cellular (I use a hotspot) connection is not super great. I have also discovered that if I ask it, does it have an answer yet, it responds and responds with the answer sometimes.
- I ask it what does it see vs take a look. I can’t recall the last time I had a challenge with it not answering.
- I have not tested long term memory completely. But if I ask it to repeat a story after a few hours, it does, remembers my name, remembers its name. And, if you look at yesterday’s update there are more recall abilities now too.
- I find it the answer is vague, I ask better question, more detailed. The best advice I saw on a forum was to give it a word limit and it seems to respond with enough information to fill that limit. (so ask for 200 or 300 words vs, what do you see)
- Can’t respond to that, because I have not been paying attention. But, I am not sure I would use Alexa as an example . My brother has one and he has resorted to just using it as a Bluetooth speaker because he found it frustrating (not a dis on Alexa, but a reminder that all technologies have fans and not fans and technology does not always work when and how you want it to)
I hope you start to have a better time with R1. I found it to be useful and fun. But I realize everyone’s experiences are different.
Same experience, i asked it to count from 1 to 5 and it took 20sec. It seems it does a round trip to the internet to retreive the information.
Is it supposed to do that or should it use it’s local model instead?
Can I ask, are you guys using wifi? I am mainly using a sim and I have zero lag on the device itself. Hopefully I don’t jinx myself.
I am using wifi and always have great connection. I have 1.2gbps at my house and no other issues. I can get up to 900mbps on my laptop using the latest wifi tech. So connectivity should not be an issues.
That is a good idea to slightly use better promoting but it is frustrating when all the other pro models can get anytbing i ask for without issues.
Heres a simple example of what this rabbit r1 should dominate at but actually is quite bad and i end up just going to got4o. I ask to read out a pokemon card for my son that is learning to read. The rabbit sinply summarizes that its a card and gives no good information on reading the card. On the turn, i ask gpt4o the same thing and it works flawlessly, gives a quick summary and then reads the card word for word in order. So one use case i could see woth the rabbit is helping walk people through games, especailly card games.
Still isnt usimg memory like i expect at gpt4o also can do. The rabbit should excel at long term memory, especially when it tells you it will remember things. It should do better than just the current conversation.
And what i mean with Alexa is i can control anything in my smarthome also pretty flawlessly. For example, i can tell it to add something to my shopping list, turn on a certain light, open up my camera view (if using the echo show) , turning on/offf outlets, etc.
