I spent 2 hours trying to get my r1 to do anything remotely useful. Everything requires connecting to services I do not want to be a part of (i.e. Spotify and Apple Music). Why is there no modularity in the way the system was built, and why does it feel like a wrapper around very few services.
I’d sell mine, but honestly I’d feel bad for the person buying it.
I’d give it away, but would feel bad for the person receiving it.
Any ideas?
It really dépends on what you use it for. Also, in the next months, There Will be Q-boom (it Will make the r1 able to Search from différent source way better) which should make it better.
Honestly im liking it for what i use it for. General knowledge stuff if im unsure of something.
Some of the issues i have so far with it are understanding my ny accent, mind you my phone struggles with it. Ex. Quentin tarantino is quitting lol. Ebbits fields is ebipts or something similar.
I eventually got a sim card because the mobile hotspot as well as wifi were shaky.
That aside im still enjoying it and its great to see the device getting updated. I dont use the connected apps so i cant comment.
o.k. good to see that there are functions that you find useful. All I can connect to is Uber - music connection to Apple Music does not work. Integration with apps - I have not seen working either - may have something to do with the fact that I am located in Germany.
If, however, I use the OpenGPT App I get more functionality with less hassle - I think this is the area that I think was the biggest surprise to me.
Hello!
I agree, but it is in its infancy. I do not wish to purchase ANY of the few available services, so its function is very limited. I was shocked it did not have a datebook, calendar, or a reminder system to keep me on track. My phone literally does more. Yet this is a launch, and I am reading about some of the updates. Hopefully, the chats are monitored and mined for ideas. Such as:
freedom to choose music service
email
personal assistant
calendar
alert system for severe weather or other major issues
internet capability
planner
internal messaging from one user to another
etc.
Let us not be too hasty to condemn the infant. It has to grow up before we should pass judgment.
By the way, and this is a foolish point, I dislike calling it “Assistant” when it does not assist me with what I need. I would sure like to name it.
Cheers!
V
Hello together. I got almost the same experience. After some trying I sayed to r1 that it is absolutely useless. Well, it seems that many things aren’t available in Europe. But also its hard to discover or understand whats new within R1 - all it can do I (and everybody) can do it already with his smartphone … and I have the impression to have a device that I would have to take with me additional to the smartphone, but not able to replace it or do other things or better things.
After all I decided to sell it … and now, after being invited here, I think maybe I should wait a bit … but having not much hope.
Same Here… Will w8. Iam from Germany, too. I actually had high hopes for this project, but it seems to me that the promises were too high and too many. The output didn’t even reach 10%. In my opinion. Can’t make phone calls or send SMS? That’s not possible, especially since there’s a SIM card in there…
I bought mine so I can review it whether I can recommend this for company to use or not.
So far… not recommended.
I was hoping this could be perfect for business meetings. I wanted to whip it out, start recording, and anyone with access to the rabbithole can find the summary of the meeting.
Well… first, it must be connected to wifi at all times.
It won’t even connect to my phone hot spot, so if the company I’m visiting has no wifi available for visitors like myself, this device would be completely useless.
It’s a toy, at this point.
I know the updates are coming for better language recognition, but when I’m having a meeting with my clients overseas. This device will get very confused whenever a conversation in English switches to a different language.
Oh, and telling the device to create a simple spread sheet doesn’t seem to work, so that’s a huge minus.
A jailbreak is being developed, but another option is to load stock Android or LineageOS. It’s odd on such a small screen, but at least it gives you more options to use the hardware.
I have been working on integrating the device into my work flow and day-to-day life by trying something new each day.
As an example, I am not doing any google searches today and am only using the r1 to search. Its been really quick and easy so far.
Yesterday I was working on continuous dialogue and how that functions, having really long conversations with the r1 and seeing how far you can stretch the recall.
I think the device is what you make of it.
In response to your open ai claims and the inevitable phone comparison, I would like to say that I think the fact that this $200 device can be compared in conversation with a $1200 device is an amazing feat and shouldn’t be ignored.
Does your phone do more? Yes. Should it? Definitely for the extra ~$1000 you pay.
Do other subscription service ai models have a bit more functionality at the moment for a wider variety of tasks? Maybe? But thats costing you ~$20 per month. In 10 months I would expect the r1 to be on-par if not better than a lot of services available.
Is it maybe disappointing that instant gratification has not been had? Probably. And I’m sorry you haven’t seen much value yet, but I have been enjoying the device and discovering how it will help me in my day-to-day is part of the fun for me.
I agree with alot said here. This is an infant, and although what was shown and what we got was grossly exaggerated; I do feel there is potential for growth and improvement. Assistant features should have been some of the most basic features added along with its AI capability. It would seem to serve us more now as more features and updates continue to bolster its potential. I would argue that it could at least have the capability to connect to user specific services.
Though I did wonder about it when it came with no charging cable at least. The case is somewhat useful as a stand.
I have it on my desk and ask it the same questions every day as a test, you do the same. I will report on any improvements as should you. Like you, it is not quicker or smarter than my current Smart phone, that is the test they need to achieve, we will see…
you have perpflexity and Wolfang alpha behind scenes, you can do most of task out of the box that do not require a 3rd party… but journal is one of the secret sauce, while still needs to grow legs… is a killer feature
The responses to questions I have asked seem to by Ai level 1 so far, hoping to see some big improvements in the coming months. I cannot accept wrong answers as being correct, when they are obviously and proven to be wrong (just ask Google or Bing).
well, halucination is a wide issue in any AI for now, and rabbit isnt away of this issues. Having said that I have been able to talk about determinism and free will.
please be explicit in redirect q to wolfang alpha
