Modding R1 for more features

How much can we change and still have full access to all of R1? I’d like to open mine up to calls and texts. I’d like to get a lot more usage out of my device than just waiting to see if you unlock it for me.

I think it is not in @rabbit’s intention and certainly not in they interest to make some kind of smartphone out of r1. Please someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Having access to basic communication features that are locked out is far from it being a smart phone

In fact it was a feature mentioned in the original pre order video

Why are you saying these features are locked out? Sounds like you mean the device can already call or text but that those features are just like turned off. Don’t know exactly what you mean but ftr I don’t think the rabbit os has any communication features yet, they’d have to develop those before we could access them on the r1, not just something they can unlock anytime

I’m saying it was by design left out right now. They can open it and put it in.

Yes, but I think that the more r1 develops in the direction of a smartphone, the more it will compete with it, and r1 cannot win this battle. That’s why it should develop in a completely different direction and gain its strength from that. I am sure that the more r1 turns into a kind of telephone or smartphone, the more likely it will be the downfall of r1. Instead, it should develop in the direction that @jesse presented in this cool video, concentrating on the things that make it different from a smartphone and still allowing all users to do tons of things that a smartphone cannot do and will never be able to do so in this way…

Basically, RabbitOS is based on Android 13 (as far as I know), so it was probably removed but I would say for good understandable reasons.

For this reason, I firmly believe that r1 can change the world in a very positive direction and that r1 has the potential to be an iPhone-Killer, but only if those responsible at Rabbit don’t screw it up. But it just doesn’t work the same way that smartphones or iPhones do. It can only work if r1 goes its own, much more intuitive way, then and only then.

Look man, I’m not sure what you’re doing here. I’m asking for a blocked part of my device to be opened like I’ve spoken personally to the team about. They said they were just not sure. I’d like to tell my R1 I’m running late and to text my friend. I think that works perfectly as an assistant device. Saved me from taking out my phone and doing it, just like all the other features R1 provides. I can also do it on a phone, but easier on the R1.

Thanks for your opinion, but it’s not what I’m wanting. I don’t feel I need to defend my ask to anyone. Take care.

I’m sorry, it was never my intention for you to feel that way. For me it’s just like that, you say your opinion, I say mine. Nothing more, nothing less.

Even if we don’t share the same opinion, I think it’s very important that people can talk to each other, just so that everyone can get a picture from multiple perspectives. If more people in the world practiced something like this, then humanity wouldn’t keep heading towards its own extinction, at least that’s what I think. And to come back to r1, I think it’s very similar.

Just thought I was asking the people who were in charge, not asking if people agreed with my opinion. No worries.

Without jailbreaking it and putting another version of android on it we would have to just wait for rabbit inc to add these features back into the underlying version of android and let the rabbit interface use the apps. Personally I do not want it to make calls but to check messages and email, run calendars and handle your files the way you want is a must.

If they had done this from day one, I believe that they would have had far more success than they are now.

The reviews would have been something like “an assistant that works with your Google account and runs your daily life as well as answering all your questions and adding some great touches, such as magic camera” whats more you can teach it to use websites and some apps that you use in your day to day life.

I was sold on rabbit after hearing the keynote presentation but pulled the trigger after watching this video of him and his team from way before rabbit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKf9pCDc9tk I was kind of expecting something more like this but through your voice and the system learning about you.

adding smartphone features tho will increase distraction, which this device is trying to also accomplish by lessening.

Basic communication isn’t “smartphone features” I’m wanting this to be an assistant. Have it be able to assist like they have said it could before. “book an Uber and tell Jane I’m running late” paraphrasing, but yeah.

What is IYO?

I agree, this device is perfect to use as intended and leave it at that, I know they have mentioned possible R1 to R1 communication, what that looks like? No idea, but where it is now i enjoy keeping this in my pocket and far easier to use then my phone or google, siri, Google Gemini and others can’t compare outside of say ChatGPT or Perplexity, but they also cost $200 for a years of use+.
