Translate app is missing features ...

I wanted to write this in the Suggestions and Ideas category, but it won’t allow me. :frowning:

I wanted to give two suggestions about the Translate app that would make it infinitely more useful.

  1. After the translation is complete, and has been spoken, let me tap the translated text to have it spoken again! In my test case, I was doing English to Spanish and the volume was too low. My Spanish friend could not hear the spoken translation. I swept the settings open and turned up the volume, but there was no way to play the translated text a second time. (That I could find?) And then when I wanted to repeat the translation I had to speak the entire thing over again. If I could tap the text and have it spoken again it would be great!

  2. After I got the first translation complete with my Spanish speaking friend, and he heard and read my statement, I wanted to allow him to speak to my Rabbit and have it translated back to English for me! But there is currently no quick way (that I can find!) to “swap” the direction of translation. You really could allow me to tap the languages text above the translation to “swap” the direction. On mine, the screen says “translator” with the next line reading “EN ← → ES” and then the translated text. I should be able to tap that second line to simply toggle it to be “ES ← → EN” and then I could press the button and hold it out to my friend.

OMG - I love Item #1 - it will have to go into the feature queue with everything else to get prioritized- but - I personally love the idea!

@simon - would you mind helping us move this to the right place?

#2 should already be handled - once you have a pair of languages selected, the r1 should recognize “this was English, I’ll make it Spanish” and “this was Spanish, I’ll make it English” automatically. No switching needed. Just have your friend hold the PTT and speak Spanish

Ha!

I’m glad you like #1, and yes … #2 already works!! You guys rock. I just did a quick test and didn’t even think you were doing the automatic language translation both ways.

I’m about to take a cruise in the next few weeks and will be travelling along Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, and Columbia. I look forward to really working this out!

Thank you!
