When using the translator with any language I know well, but to check myself, I find it tedious to have to go back and reselect the two languages again every time I want to swap between translating into and out of English. It seems like allowing the user to click on the arrows between the languages in order to swap into or out of language would be a much more user-friendly approach.
My experience with the translator app is as you describe it. Meaning if English and Spanish is selected the device detects which language is spoken and then translated into the opposite language. I used simple expressions from english to spanish and vice versa. It works well with no clicking needed
