The scroll wheel is broken

Hey folks,

My r1 had this well known issue where a loose screw (or whatever it is) is causing a rattling noise since I bought it second hand but it worked the whole time.

Yesterday the scroll wheel just stopped working. Since the r1’s touch display is disabled by default the device is barely usable.

I wrote an email to the support team and asked if they do repairs but I don’t think they do.

If there only was an option to enable the functionality of the touch display I could still use the r1 and not dump it in the trash.

Since rabbit released the firmware as open source I thought maybe one of you smart techy people has already found a way to enable touch or bypass the restrictions.

So…is there any chance to enable touch on the device without flashing to Android? I mean…if it can be disabled there has to be a way to enable it, right? @simon? @mattdomko?

Unfortunately presently there is no way to enable touch on the current OS. That being said, we’re working hard on rabbitOS 2 which will have touch enabled by default, however our current estimates are that it will not be out until at the earliest, the second half of June.

So I’m afraid your only option right now would be to flash a version of Android such as cipherOS, and then you could flash back to rabbitOS when OS2 comes out.

Alternatively, if you’re feeling brave, you could open up the r1 and remove the loose screw. At least a couple of people on our Discord have successfully done this.

Since you bought it second hand, unfortunately we would not be able to do a warranty replacement.

Thanks, Simon. Since I don’t feel brave  and because the ported android firmware seems to be not quite there yet I will wait for rabbitOS 2 I guess
