Ymobile SIM works in Japan.
IIJmio SIM doesn’t work. *It needs APN profile to work.

From Amazon, EIOT Club dual networks data SIM card works. Comes with 300MB and you can pay as you go from the initial data amount. You do have to enable the data roaming option on the R1 for it to work.
