Seriously though... Does the Rabbit Actually Do *Anything*?

Preordered my r1 the day it was announced.

I’ve had it for I don’t know, about a month? Short of dictating voice recording to the device (which it still fails at half the time, it will start recording then just stop and not save anything), I can’t find anything the r1 actually does???

There is already a thread for people to post their use cases that may help you out Top use cases for using R1

I use it to look up news headlines all the time and answer random inquiries I have.

Not sure what the “Not doing anything” means… as you could say ChatGPT doesn’t do anything. Especially if you don’t have anything you want to know or ask. Then it just predicts what you want to hear… Depends what looking for maybe?

The use cases is a good thread to see what some of us enjoy to do with it.

I know what you mean, expected it to do soo much and it really hardly does anything. I’m starting to worry rabbit isn’t trying to make it do much more. They hardly seem interested in games, barely acknowledged the “idea” of displaying magic pics on device :person_shrugging:

To a degree, this is like saying “does my computer do anything”. We will be sharing a lot more use cases and ideas, great prompts, as well as new feature updates, but there’s always going to be a large degree of user intent required.

So it’s up to you.

I did some very complex calculations this mornings in seconds (two savings accounts, with different amounts in them, and different AER rates, and I wanted to know how much interest I’d get every month)

Then I did some follow up prompts between music and knowledge about what was playing.

Then I made some magic camera art. Then I saved a note for something I need to do later.

And none of these things broke me out of my workflow or risked me getting distracted by app notifications.

It’s a very strange device in my opinion. The LLM component in my experience is very good. I asked the same question of perplexity ( with 4o ), gemini, and rabbit R1, and only the R1 got the answer right. To be fair it’s just hit or miss sometimes I would ask the same question a few times and the rabbit would get it right and then get it wrong right after lol. I would say it can play music but the experience is a bit mid. If you are a spotify user it’s the only way to interact with spotify with your voice. If you are a youtube music user it’s like we are living in the future with the amount of stuff you can do with gemini and youtube music.

Translation is very good but unless you use something like that a lot it’s not that useful.

voice notes are nice but voice recorder on android does do transcripts already and it can store local on the device.

yelp is a thing still a little frustrating but it’s gotten better.

LAH (LamAtHome) arguably ads a lot of cool little features to the R1 like computer control and google home control.

Magic camera while not useful persay is entertaining.

So where does that leave us…? Well it doesn’t do nothing I can say that much for sure. It definitely does things… Whether or not those things are something you want is a whole other question.

When I compare the r1 to my current Smart phone for rapid information, it is much slower. That is now my benchmark for any improvements. People complained about Tesla’s car build quality when they first began, and were nearly bankrupt. Now their Model Y is the best selling car overall in the world. The r1 is a cheap product to purchase, with huge potential to compliment your smartphone and improve your productivity. Have patience, It is a small price to pay and like Tesla, they are still working on it and succeeding :slightly_smiling_face:
