R1 - UX basics and details

I love how my android phone instantly listens when holding the lock button. It’s always instantly listening and ot doesn’t matter it takes a second to respond because it will always respond.

My R1 is always disconnected when I press the PTT button and it often disconnects after I made a request. Then the request is lost without getting any feedback. I believe the reason why I don’t pick up my R1 more regularly is because it isn’t reliable.

I have 3 questions:

  • Is connectivity being worked on? I hope it is a software thing…
  • Can there be a way to cache recordings even when something disconnects in the process?
  • Is there focus on optimizing these things in the near future or are there other priorities?

I think it will make the device so much better if UX basics and details get attention.

Love the project and the vision!

Hey @Designer - Thank you for the kind words and feedback  Someone else might have a more solid answer for you but…

  1. It’s something we are constantly tuning - I don’t work in that space directly, but my assumption is that there is a trade-off between “my battery only lasts 4 hours, but r1 reacts instantly” and “my r1 takes 5 seconds to wake up, but my battery lasts 2 days”. Finding the right balance (along with other network + infrastructure level changes) is something I know the team is thinking about.

  2. Local storage/caching is something the device team wants to provide as well… I blame our security team for making them jump through hoops before we start storing things on the R1 (that’s my team, I blame us :frowning: ). It’s a big change in expectations of what happens with your data, so we want to ensure that when data is stored on your device, it’s done in a safe way, and you are in control of it.

  3. It’s in progress  . I wouldn’t expect things to be perfect overnight, more like iterative improvements as time goes on

Thank you for your elaborate response! I truly appreciate the transparency regarding these challenges.

I’m rooting for the Rabbit team as you work through these complexities. I understand that balancing performance with battery life and ensuring data security is no small task.

I’m excited to see how these iterative improvements unfold and how they will enhance the overall user experience. Thank you for keeping us informed, and please extend my gratitude to the entire team for their work!
