Re-prioritise updates..

Checking through the list of updates and new features I find lots of fun and interesting features.
…while features and updates users have been pushing for since day one is still not addressed; language, metric system and other basic features for the international uses.
How is it that the dev-team isn’t working on the most asked for fixed and instead releases different iterations of how to change the UI…?
You can’t even see the magic picture your just took, or use the internal storage for Christ’s sake…

Hi @Maako ,

you mentioned some points, which should be priorized in my point of view, too. Especially the language update.

In a post in the early days for our rabbits I descriped it also, but many points are released.

Cool! Hoping for a major update! I’ll be definitely checking in

Just tried the new feature resulting in 0 (zero) pictures displayed.
“magic gallery on r1
view original and magic photos, right on r1. when enabled, simply say “show me my photos” to launch magic gallery. only images captured after this setting is enabled will appear on r1.”
…Yeah, who wants to have access to the hundreds of pictures already taken? “Hey guys, let’s start from scratch and send everyone back to the clunky web interface to scroll through months of unsearchable content”.
I’d be happy to pay another $199 to attend one of the meetings and listen to the reasoning behind some of these ill-conceived decisions.

I could give you the justification, but I think it’s perhaps better that it comes from @mattdomko, but it’s related to security/privacy.

I’m on the edge of my seat…
I’m terrible sorry for the negative vibe I’m obviously bringing about this, but I struggle to understand the difference in privacy/security of the picture I took today compared to the one snapped yesterday.
It would also be interesting to know how many users was asking for a gamifying carrot collecting feature, compared to staggering amount of requests of implementing the metric system.

Since I received the unit I’ve spent more time here bitching about the device than actually using it. Mostly to avoid sending the bunny across the room out of pure frustration.
How about them carrots?

Hey Maako, sounds like you’ve had a rough time of it… I hope this week is going better for you

To Simon’s point, and since you’re interested… here’s a book of a post to feed your curiosity

We had a lot of “back and forth” with this feature, so when it finally came down to “let’s get this to customers before Christmas so that offline photos actually work”… this is what we ended up with.

Is it perfect? No. Will we keep iterating on it? Absolutely.

When the first version of photo gallery was released internally, it was “device initiated opt-in”. Meaning that anyone with your device and the 4 digit pin that you totally didn’t set to 0-0-0-0 could download all of your photos.

We were changing the way we treated your data, and I’m strongly against that without an explicit opt-in via a password protected page.

A compromise was proposed… what if we just download new photos since they enabled the feature? No historical images… just this one?

The sync engine was built based on that plan while we discussed this.

Fast forward a few weeks - we’ve decide that the right thing for us to do is to keep that toggle in the rabbithole. But the engine is complete :frowning:

So now we are faced with two options:

  • Delay the release of local photos
  • Only sync photos once’s the device is opted in

As you can see - we decided to ship it. We’ll never be able to make everyone happy with a v1 release - but one of my favorite things about working here is that I know our team wants to create a magical orange box that people love… and we’ll keep iterating to make it better.

Hope that helps, have a good weekend!
