Yeah, that was an early thought of mine too, and actually an early suggestion from Tello.
Unfortunately, does absolutely seem like just an issue with Tello. I cleaned the sim, and even tried a different Tello sim from my sons tablet, and even cleaned that one too - still same issues. And given the amount of people who complain in the discord specifically about Tello, I sadly think it’s just not a good option any more. Shame since they were so cheap.
It seems to be picky on SIM or should I say the account make. I have a T-Mobile account from a hot-spot device from them and it seems to work fine, just poor coverage for me in my area. What’s strange I have a Wi-Fi in my vehicle it’s using Verizon account which works for my Apple Music and other things, but when I hook up my r1 it hooks up to it, but has a “no internet connection” I’ve opened a ticket on it.
Yeah, after trying a few other sims now, I’m starting to agree it’s a bit harder to blame on just Tello. Tried a few others, still can’t stay connected to anything until a reboot, then it will stay connected for a few seconds then no connection again.
I think at this point the r1 for me gets to stay at home until rabbit can actually either sort out what happened, or we nail down a sim that works across the board. It feels like a giant mess as it looks like what works for some won’t work for others, etc.
Unfortunately, I’ve recently noticed (past week or so) this same issue where the r1 looks like it’s connected to cellular but when I use the PTT button, it switches to “connecting” and then “disconnected” and then settled on “no connection”. Sleep screen and then wake screen gets me to “disconnected” and then settled on “no connection”. 5x PTT stays at no connection. 8x PTT gets me maybe 1 question before back to"no connection ". All this is with T-Mobile SIM in United States.
[Edited: Added carrier]
Yeah, any service using t mobile towers in the US just doesn’t work with the r1 anymore, for a lot of people anyway. It will always do that. The services will say it’s rabbit’s fault, rabbit says it’s them. Best to find something else.
I wish we rabbit would like partner with someone, finding a service that works for everyone in the us seems like a shit show lol
I’m having a different approach with my r1, instead of feeding all my accounts to the rabbit, I’m creating one for each service I use, since we are in a VERY experimental phase, it’s not that I don’t trust the developers, but since the situation is not yet at all mature, I prefer to build everything around it, rather than find myself one day without being able to access my accounts, being blocked, banned, or any other related issues…
If I were to lose the accounts I created for it (for whatever reason) at least I will have limited the damage…
In your case I would make a new SIM just for the rabbit… new number, a number made exclusively for the rabbit, I’ve seen a lot of other users here and on youtube do this type of reasoning, but it would be enough to open your mind a little and the solutions would be found…
Sorry if I went a little bit off-topic here but I think this reasoning can also be applied to the SIM (in fact I have all SIMs not supported by the rabbit in Italy with ho-mobile, but this is one of the not accepted by it, but I am going to buy a new SIM in the next days only for my CLOWN companion
what verizon plan are you using for r1? A phone one or a hotspot one? i’m seeing $40 a month for 5GB listed in the tablet and hotspot plans and also seeing $35 a month for 15 gb in phone plans. $6 a month with tello for 2GB was great until it started having all these connectivity issues.
The plan I was using with T Mobile is $7 a month and it was working just fine until recently. Verizon doesn’t have anything that cheap, I’ve already checked.
Yeah, was literally in the same boat as you, I was on the Tello $6 plan for months until it stopped working.
Sadly, Verizon is now the best option and they don’t have really any “cheap” plans, so I went with the $35 monthly for 15 gb. A little more than I wanted to spend, but honestly speaking I don’t think there are too many options right now. T mobile cant use anymore, in my area att has horrid coverage, so verizon it was.
I found this company called visible that is powered by verizon. Looks like they have an unlimited plan for $25 a month. It says unlimited data, talk, and text. The data is probably not as good speedwise etc for actual 5G smart phones but for r1 on 4G maybe it would work well due to less data needed than a smartphone with data hungry apps. it’s verizon network and it even looks like it’s run by verizon directly maybe? It says “visible by verizon” on their website header. I need to see how easy it is to cancel but i might try it. Idk if we’re allowed to post links on this forum but it’s just visible dot com
