I have my r1 my name and it now says it when I speak to it, this makes it feel a little more personal, you can also get it to pick its own name or give it a name so you can call it by it, in place of r1 or rabbit etc.
What have you called yours.
HMMMM i didnt know you can do this. What did you name yours? @Hal-9000
Selma of a 1980s tv series where the cop person from the future has a personal AI disguised as a credit card called Selma he was a future cop sent back to the 20th century to get fugitives that had escaped to the past. The name of the show was timetrax. Selma stands for

By giving it a name you can also check via it if it’s having problems remembering after an update.once it’s got the name just ask it what its name is it should say something like my name is……. And then ask it what’s my name and it should say the user of this device is called or is ……. If it doesn’t after an update you know it’s having minor memory problems. Plus if you say goodnight …… it will say going night……
This is awesome! How were you able to do that? I had it remember my name (I had it call me Bebop lol), but how would I get it to remember it’s name?
Is there some special prompt I should give it? Or phrase it a certain way so it remembers and it sticks?
You can ask it to pick a new name for its self or just say your new name is …… and then once it’s saved it ask it what it’s called you can also I think tell it to make a note that it is now called ……: if you don’t want to tell it its name via voice to to terminal and type it in then go back to main screen and ask it via voice. I have terminal turned on so if I am in a a place where I don’t want to speak to it I can just type it in. And get txt response on terminal
Oh ok. That’s more simple than I thought it was going to be
So using yours as an example, it’s something like:
“Your new name is Selma.”
r1 replies: ok my new name is Selma
Then say “Make a note that your name is now Selma.” Or “Remember that your name is now Selma.”
Just to make sure it sticks. And don’t delete those journal entries
Yes you can just say you new name is……
If that doesn’t work you can tell it to make the note your new name is…. Or can do both give it a try if your don’t like it give it another name etc have play. Then once it’s remembered.
Say, what are you called it should say what it’s called then ask it what am I called it should say your name. You know it’s stored it even try it few hours or day later to make sure if that ok your done
Did it work for you?
Yes it worked lol. I named my r1 KITT (pronounced kit). It’s from Knight Rider
KITT is an artificially intelligent electronic computer module in the body of a highly advanced, very mobile, robotic automobile in both the 1980’s version and the newer version in 2008 (abbreviations stand forKnight Industries Two Thousand and Knight Industries Three Thousand respectively)
So I got it to remember it’s name. But it writes it as “Kit” when I ask. Adjusting the journal entry to get it to spell like KITT isn’t really working though so I’ll tinker with it
yes it worked
Just got it to spell and say it’s name to KITT
I created a note saying “Save a note that your new name is kit spelled capital k, capital I, capital t, capital t”
And it saved it under “name spelling”. So then I edited that journal entry to “new name is kit spelled KITT”
And when I ask it it’s name it spells it as KITT
Called my r1 Penny. No real reason just think it suits her
I’m still playing around with the name I just wanted to test it out and see if it worked. But I might keep it for now
Makes me feel like looking at sci-fi films or shows and seeing what resonates
It does make her feel more personal and it feels odd when she replies. Especially when you say, “ good night ….”, she, “good night …. Etc.
I may go with HAL or HAL9000, if not LCARS or something Star Trek related. May just give different things a try & see what I end up with.
EDIT: Also, HAL9000 may have been subliminal… I didn’t see your username until just now =P Might have seen your photo & it popped into my head.
Yes or Sal-9000, k9, Robby the robot, etc it’s up to your it’s your r1 anything you can call it remember you may be at some point calling it in public so you don’t want to look a fool or upset people r1 makes me think of Star Wars robot.
Where’s the fun if they don’t look at me like “whyTF is he talking to himself or a robot?”
Fun fact : I named my r1 bugs bunny because it is a bunny
You know I never thought of that hahah dam. It clearly my brain never thought of it. Your comment above made me chuckle. Great job
