Fixed iPhone hotspot! (KPN NL)

I found that my mobile data provider uses IPv6 for their APN. Assumption: the R1 does not (fully) support IPv6.
KPN offers an alternate APN that uses IPv4 addresses instead of IPv6.

To fix the hotspot connection issue for NL data providers that use the KPN network do the following:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Mobile Service > Mobile Data Network.
  2. Tap Mobile Data Network.
  3. For the Personal Hotspot section, change the APN from “internet” to “portalmmm.nl”
  4. Tap back

It should now connect normally.

For t-mobile you could try pcweb.tmobile.com as the APN setting.

As I understand it, not all network providers let you “downgrade” to IPv4.

But it may just be finding the right setting in the menus. Here’s where I have the APN setting for my provider. I hope this helps.

I don’t see any of those Mobile Services on my iPhone 11. I’m using iOS 18 beta, which might have something to do with it. Plus, I’m using Mint Mobile. It would be nice if it was something like that. I think SIMON knows about the issues with T-Mobile since Mint is part of T-Mobile. Mine seems like it connects but drops off right away.

Ok, so these settings seem to be different for different providers.

From what I find when looking at options for T-mobile I, it seems they have moved everything to IPv6, switching to IPv4 only when roaming.

It would be good if the rabbit team would look into this. On the other hand, looking at the reactions here on the forum, only a handful of ppl actually seem to be bothered by this.

I know Simon is looking into the T-Mobile hotspot issue. To me it doesn’t matter if it works, I remember my iPhone getting pretty hot while hotspot was being used, besides I have my phone for that.

without a connection the r1 does nothing, without a hotspot the r1 has no connection unless i’m at home. so r1 is only useful at home until hotspot is fixed.

Can’t you find a carrier so you have sim, like the one I have with T-Mobile it’s $10 a month for when I use it outside my home network. I don’t know about the Android but with an iPhone you have to manual connect it to a hotspot, is it automatically happen, not sure. Where the sim just connects when it doesn’t have WiFi anymore.

if i already have a phone with unlimited hotspot data, why would i pay $10 more per month for a sim card?

Good point. Don’t you have to connect to the hotspot each time? When I used it on my iPhone, I had to turn on the hotspot and connect to it. Maybe there is another way. I didn’t use it much on my work laptop, but if you have the sim installed it is more convenient
