I didn’t buy the r1 because I wanted another tablet or smartphone. I bought it to use as a personal assistant in my day to day activities and to assist me with work. I was looking for a strong AI interface. I would love to see this device expand to be able to take a picture of say an engine and it give you step by step instructions on how to replace a part on it with audio and illustrations. Or take a picture of a piece of your house that you need to make a repair on and it do the same. I also like the fact I can have a whole summary of a meeting at work. It would be great for listening to lectures in school or even just have it take notes in class so you can recall them in the Hole later. It’s really good at day to day questions. I think the development should steer away from the average phone or tablet style features. Now it would be nice to have it send messages to other devices but I would skip the phone calls. Zoom would be a nice feature for virtual meetings and have it summarize the Zoom meetings. Things like this are more what I prefer. Thats just me though. I want it to use as a tool more than another entertainment device.
I couldn’t agree more! Its not a phone replacement. Its for someone outside of that realm.
That being said, peoples expectation of the device will likely always outweigh the reality. Hopefully people will find their place with r1!
I totally agree with that. With a 2.8 inch screen, it would be a bit of a pain and a bit impractical to try and type really long texts yet alone trying to call someone since you don’t have a full microphone array (only 2 microphones facing at the top!) yet alone needing an under screen earpiece to fully make out with what you are trying to say. It would be better if the r1 had iOS and Android phone integration over Bluetooth for doing that in a similar way to Microsoft’s Phone Link app, but I don’t think rabbit will ever have intentions for doing that just now but I still think it would make it even better if they did consider on doing that.
I agree it is something else just not sure what yet. Hopefully updates and feedback from users will make this an epic concept. People used to joke about Tesla’s supervised FSD being useful, not so much now…
You’re on point here, for sure.
Personally, I’m imagining it as more of an interface which allows me to more easily collect and process the same types of data about myself, that a multitude of internet marketing agencies have collected and siloed away over the last several decades.
I suppose I’m not just excited for the ability to stockpile my own ‘me’ data, I’m really hoping the LAM can help free me somewhat from the various ‘walled gardens’ plaguing SaaS et al. That is, for example, it might no longer matter what messaging services I’m using vs. someone who’d like me to contact them. Ie. “Hey Rabbit. I’d like to send a message to my friend Bobbi, but he uses Telegram and I don’t have an account. Please send out a rabbit to make me a Telegram account using my awesomename@proton.com email address. Use a random password and note it in my rabbit hole. If you need any further information in order to setup my Telegram account, please ask. After we have created the account, please add the contact information for Bobbi to my Apple Contacts, and then send him the following message: ‘Can you fly Bobbi?’ Thanks.”
As we have devices like iLOKs for managing software keys, the r1 is kind of like a keychain for storing access to LAMs. Because LAM creation isn’t open yet, few understand the real impact of the r1, but after seeing what Jessie, Simon, and the rest of the team have been working on through discord conferences, I can say with 90% confidence that the r1 will blow everyone’s minds this fall.
