Rabbit R1 accessibility

Dear Rabbit Developers,

I am reaching out with an urgent and important request: to implement Screen Reader support on the Rabbit R1. It has been quite some time since the device was released, and as a blind person, I am extremely disappointed that this product is not accessible to blind or visually impaired individuals without the constant help of a sighted person.

As a blind app developer, I find it unacceptable that accessibility was not considered a priority from the start. I have already contacted Rabbit Support, but I fear that my request has not been taken seriously. Therefore, I would like to publicly ask for accessibility to be made a top priority, and for Screen Reader support to be enabled in the next software update.

I understand that developing your own screen reader may take time, so I suggest at least allowing the installation of Google TalkBack through ADB commands. Since RabbitOS is based on Android, this should be a technically feasible and quick solution to implement.

If accessibility support is not included in the next update, I will have no choice but to report the situation to the Italian Blind Association, which has connections with international organizations that can address the issue on a broader scale.

My goal is to ensure that all users, regardless of their visual abilities, can enjoy the best possible user experience with the Rabbit R1. It is unfair for part of the community to be excluded from using a product that is available internationally.

I hope to receive a positive response soon and to finally see the Rabbit R1 become accessible to everyone.

We also post here Support for Blind People in suggestions & ideas that give some new functions(vocal setup of brightness/sound volume/power off) but still not enough to make it really accessible for blind, even if there’s only a few (essential) missing functions to add and be a real good help for impaired people and have a more user friendly interface for anyone. The LAM make the R1 mature, get it perfect with accessibility :grinning:

Sure, the LAM makes the R1 mature and perfect for Accessibility, that’s all ok. But the fact that a ScreenReader is missing is a huge problem.
I’m talking being blind by myself; each time my R1 needs to be connected to a WiFi, for example, I need to call someone who can see to type in the password. I need to rely on the other person by sharing sensitive data like the passwords, and I strictly depend from the presence of the other, thing that smartphones, laptops etc made disappearing with their screen readers.
Also: I can’t use terminal mode, I can’t login to any website due to the inaccessibility of the virtual environment that’s not compatible with the Screen Readers on my PC, I can’t check basic stuff like the battery without using my phone’s camera… there is a lot of things that I can’t do independently with my R1, due to the lack of screen reading support.

Perhaps a bit of LAM onboard the R1 to manage the settings will be nice  , I add a sugestion in the list for vocalised keyboard in terminal too, and vocaly request the battery level (the otner request where already on the list)
