WORK AROUND FOUND
**crediting @alex.hent ** If you ask for distance point to point it will give a “as-the-crow-flies” Distance. AKA flight distance. You have to be more specific. If you ask for a commercial route distance it will give you the commercial route miles/km
I have a carrier dispatch service company and I’m constantly looking at mileage from point to point to be able to decide if I want to continue booking that work for my clients. I tried to use Rabbit for this but it gives me the wrong mileage every time.
Example Commack NY to Longmont CO = 1819 miles
My rabbit tells me its 1667 Miles and its provided by WolframAlpha.
i tried many other city and states and its wrong 90% of the time.
I suppose it depends what its using if it’s using WiFi. Or cellular. Mind gives my different location depending on what I am using example. If I ask it the distance from my home to a place it thinks I am at the other end of the country due to where the broadband provider is. As for cellular it’s a little closer within the same county. If I specifically state a place. It’s better. You may want to put this big into the bug report on this site. As for GPS it’s closer within a road.
As far as I know, not much has been done yet regarding navigation or things related to routes and distances, so I suspect that this topic will be addressed in more detail by the developers at a later date. Just be patient.
I have both wifi and celluar. I tried both methods and same results. When booking cargo we are only given the city and state so i can only check city/state to city/state. With the mileage and price i can get the most accurate Rate Per Mile to make a quick decision. Im sure the r1 will be more accurate in the future. I figured i report any issues i encounter to help speed up progress.
I asked R1 to give a commercial route and local route from Commack NY to Longmont CO and still get 1667. No matter how I ask R1 I get the same answer. You also cant take a flight from Commack itself to Longmont itself so giving flight distance would not be a useful.
Only thing i can imagine here is that R1 probably calculates direct distance from a to b but not using the roads? will do a test for you and will update on this !
This is awesome. @SirJunior I’ve changed your topic to a “Bug/Issue” and marked @alex.hent’s comment as the answer so others can find it easily if they run into this issue
