hey everyone - we’re introducing retro mode so you can move between OS3 and a more familiar r1 experience, with the freedom to choose which you use and when.
retro mode moves back the r1 to the experience of the device before you enabled OS3.
if you’ve already set up OS3 with your own key, trying retro mode doesn’t mean leaving OS3 behind. you can switch to retro mode and come back to OS3 whenever you like. this isn’t a one-way decision, and you don’t have to pick one and stick with it.
**to enable it, from the OS3 settings, please visit the r1 section and look for the retro mode toggle. **
we’re also officially working on a complete rewrite of the r1 software experience, built around OS3. you can already run queries from your r1 through OS3 today, but what we’re building goes much further. we’re reimagining the entire experience of using r1, not just how it answers your questions.
you can explore OS3 today, move between both modes, or use retro mode and give the refreshed OS3 experience a go when it lands. we’ll share more about what we’re building as it comes together!
whichever mode you choose, you’ll still be able to access your recordings and magic photos through the OS3 web interface.
Good call to offer the option to revert to the original R1 experience!
What I had expected reading about OS3 was an additional, optional rabbit agent connection like the one for openclaw and hermes. That would still be cool to have instead of having to use the retro R1 toggle.
The attraction for quite a large part of the user community is that it is a device that requires very little technical know-how. BYOK is the opposite; while I understand that it’s very flexible from a technical standpoint, it’s unreachably technical for the majority of people.
yep and that’s because i thought i was pretty tech advanced lol (im 27) … this whole api config and losing rabbithole web and journal global search and retiring the beloved DLAM plug and play capabilities got me feeling like my grandparents.. example: (stuck on their phone thing for 3 days when its just an app update that needs extra space)
yep I got confused with the setup and bailed - never set up a key, and simon you send to send you message via the discord, which I did and was ignored so the support for this thing is crap and geared purely for getting the technical people experience to benefit Rabbit and not the supporters that bought it for a fun entry point not programming approach to AI. Even the intro to the retro mode is poorly explained - do you still need a API key - whatever the hell that is and the difficulties and cost to set up. And Retromod is a quick save face for us that are not technical but still left us in the dark of exactly what version you use it etc.
