I know this might come across as a bit weird to ask on the official forum but with the gen UI update i find myself using the R1 way more and the battery quickly drains sometimes. Would a bigger battery fit and could we replace it ourselves without damaging the R1?

Looking at the teardown video by ifixit the R1 seems glued together and the battery has a specific connector. So replacement / upgrade does not seem to have been part of the design criteria and is not for the faint of heart. It’s likely that you will at least end up with a few extra scratches on the case looking at the way that the back needs to be pryed open.
I think you might have better luck with a small external battery mod on the back that can plug into the USB port and not require opening it up.
Or, we could do new hardware next year with a bigger battery 
Thanks for the helpful idea! As long as the real magic happens in the cloud and I think a new formfactor would be welcome!
