Please, no more Morse code development!

Chesterton’s fence - is supposed to be that way; otherwise, you would accidentally turn off your device.

I’ve been doing that ever since the 8-press feature was implemented. It’s really annoying. It’s happened to me at least 5 times since then that I’ve accidentally turned off r1 because of it.

You press twice for the camera, you notice r1 turns on and off again, then you press it again, r1 turns on again, then you press twice more for the camera, r1 doesn’t react, then you press it two or three times and then it happens again, r1 shutdown. That’s crap… But not intuitive.

I wasn’t in the military and in my life I wouldn’t want to go to those crazy war people, which is why I don’t have any training as a Morse code specialist and now I’m having problems using r1 because I actually thought I had bought the most intuitive computer, but unfortunately it has now turned into a Morse code device and I hope that these errors will be corrected or, even better, that a more intuitive way of using it will be implemented. Perhaps similar to what I have already suggested here.

What situation requires you to press ptt 8+ times other than when you want to shutdown??

I had a bunch of accidental shutdowns when the shutdown was set to 60 sec ptt hold because I tend to talk for too long when I talk to r1. But I have had zero accidental shutdowns since it was changed to ptt x8.

Idk how you would accidentally trigger ptt x8 unless you are using ptt as like a fidget spinner. Nothing wrong with fidgeting like clicking a pen button over and over while lost in thought but there are consequences for that type of action with an r1.

For me personally the change from 60 sec hold to ptt x8 has been a huge improvement. Also ptt x8 is optional, so if you forget how to do it you can still do the full shutdown via the settings menu.

It can happen like this, or at least that’s how it happened to me several times. At least before the last wonderful update. Thankfully now you can speak straight away when you press PTT for the first time using r1. That’s really great, by the way! But in any case it was like this: 1xPTT to switch on + 1xPTT by accident (display off again because I actually wanted to take a photo), so another quick PTT, then 2xPTT to activate the Rabbit Eye, r1 then hangs for a moment (because 5xPTT was pressed), then another quick 2xPTT to activate the Rabbit Eye again + 1PTT for the photo and the result is r1 is turned off. Taaaad! Daaaa…! *lol  It’s really nice that pressing and holding no longer shuts it down, but unfortunately it’s still not really intuitive unless you want to lie to yourself. So it’s a compromise at best. In my opinion, it could certainly be done much better and more intuitively. Unfortunately, it would just be much more complicated in terms of programming. :frowning: I’d say I’m actually getting along well after the last update, so everything’s fine, but I’m not very optimistic about the future for people with motor disorders. People like that shouldn’t be excluded, if you can’t or don’t want to put yourself in their shoes.

What is so funny about that?

I think this is a really important topic.

Well, I tried to replicate what you described and I am in no way able to. I thought the 8x PTT had be done concisely and quickly and doesn’t work when you lock / unlock the R1 etc.

But I agree… it can happen when you spamclick the button.

It really had nothing to do with spam clicks, it was normal use, I actually always click pretty quickly. Even when I have to ride in an elevator it often happens that I have to press a button twice because the elevator electronics react too slowly for me, on some lifts the LED on the button for the desired floor lights up but the controls still don’t respond, so it’s not rocket science that I also have problems with clicking PTT multiple times. But as I said, it’s gotten better after the last update because you can now just hold down the PTT button if you at least want to speak to r1. But it would be even better if you could activate the Rabitt Eye directly from the turned off screen with 2xPTT. That would be really great, it would further improve usability and slightly reduce the risk of accidentally pressing PTT.

Dude, really doesn’t seem like most people find the 8x ptt personally problematic in anyway. Yes it’s not the easiest action to execute, could be challenging for some people, but so could using the device in general, so. And I haven’t read every post you’ve made about it but I still don’t think you’ve suggested any better physical reset method?
If you’re really so worried about hitting it 8x by accident maybe you should want it to be a code, like Morse code. It would be much harder to accidentally click out a Morse sequence.

I think we should finally put this topic to rest, not because I don’t like discussing it with you, but because we’re going around in circles. That’s not good. It’s wasted energy. I think I’ve achieved my goal with this topic anyway. I’ve brought the awareness of the people responsible for keeping the system (rabbit os) as simple and uncomplicated as possible.

5 button pushes is just a single number in Morse code… You could have a letter for less tho. But I happen to like Morse code :woman_shrugging:t2:
