Music Superthread

Hey hey, I’m making a thread for people to share their favorite albums!

Starting you guys off with some of my favorite ambient.

X.Y.R. was one of my early discoveries, with some beautiful synth soundscapes. My favorite works of his are Labyrinth and Reflections, which I generally listen to on cassette! This might have been the first album to give me a “profound” experience. I recommend actively listening to this set without distractions, and on a good set of speakers. The entire X.Y.R. discography is a wonderful exploration if you enjoy music like this!

Do We Become Sky by Slow Dancing Society is my current favorite album for 2024. The experience it has given me is practically impossible to describe, and should be experienced in its whole, uninterrupted. The story behind the album is also a pretty cool one!

Resonance by Yumiko Morioka is always a pleasure when it comes up in my library! I often listen to this one when I’m looking for a quick “pick me up” album. The piano reminds me a lot of the BotW soundtrack. I still have to do a deep dive into Yumiko’s other works.

Finally Nakazora by Amie Waters has been one of my meditative albums. Something about the sounds created brings me a profound bliss. I like showing this one to strangers and having conversations on philosophy and our place in life. It often helps open the doors to deep and meaningful conversations for me.

Great thread!

If we start diving into my faves I’ll be here all day, but as everyone knows I’m a huge Prince and Michael Jackson fan, super into 80s music in general as well as 90s (particularly rock, hip-hop and R&B)

One thing I’m currently planning to check out is the new album from Marsha Ambrosius (formerly of the group Floetry). The new album has been entirely produced by Dr. Dre and is apparently pretty good!
