I was a bit surprised by these numbers so I did a few checks. As I understand it, Chat GPT has fewer than 200M users in August 2024. The BCG research (=data source) is from 2023. India has a population of approx 1.4B, of which ~600M are considered active consumers. If 45% of those would use CGPT that would mean ~270M users. More than the current total number of registered users, never mind the number of ChatGPT users that were registered in 2023.
Since there is no transparency on the way this research was done, I’ll take these statistics with a grain of salt.
