# Voice Activation " Hey Rabbit " Hands Free Experience

I think a cool hands free experience would be if you can activate R1 with a voice command, for example : Hey Rabbit , then the R1 can already ask you: How can i help.

Hi @alex.hent ,
cool idea.
By realizing, you will get a personal assistant, which can stand in front of you (in your daily work on the desk etc.) and you can request some useful actions.
But I think, this function/feature should be optional and should be manually enabled/also disabled in the settings of the rabbit r1.

Hi, sorry to be opposite here
To me one of rabbit’s appeal points is that it does NOT constantly listen, in fact. That’d be a deal-breaker for me.
The rabbit’s hardware concept seems to align with this as it has a push to talk system, so it ‘attracts’ those of us who don’t like the traditional ‘always on’ assistants.
That said it could have a drive mode or such without compromising core concept

I have to admit, the Google Nest/Phone voice response to any question I ask, is quick. This why I use Google response times as my r1 benchmark test to see how the r1 is progressing.
I ask Google/r1 the same question every day, “Without repeating a previous response, tell me a joke…”.

Definitely would need the option to turn on/off voice activation.
But also voice recognition- me I’m not so much worried for security but for inconvenience, I only would want my voice to activate it. Just like siri.

I agree - useful feature indeed especially appreciate hands-free. Given the concerns: For sure this could be an option setting. Though I wonder what the effect on the battery would be here…

When I ask a Question and do not want any more of the response, I should be able to click the button to stop instantly, especially when the answer can be heard by others and maybe wrong, why the delay? With Google Voice, we just say stop.

Yes i noticed also.
Sometimes keeps on talking, sometimes it just writes the text.
( read with a sense of humour, and don’t take it to hard, is just a joke ) : probably is to early stage to learn when to shut up =))

I believe that an always on listening feature would be very helpful. I get several ideas while working and it would be great just to talk to the r1 without having to stop what I’m doing.

I only like this idea if there was a setting option for it, because I definitely wouldn’t want to use it like that. I love the PTT button. ❤ ❤ ❤

To be honest, I am turning around on this issue. It would be comfortable but as others said the option would take so much away from the way we interact with the device.

I requested this option at the very beginning after Jessie showed a video of him in his car getting rabbit to control his music. I posted there and then to the discord, its illegal to do what he did in the video in the UK. I asked for a toggle option so that it suits all.

I just wanted to chime in, and I agree with what @leahcim mentioned—there’s definitely room to accommodate all users’ preferences and usability needs.
**Scenario:**
Imagine this: You press the PTT button with 1 long press followed by 2 short presses. This simple combination could activate a conversation mode, allowing you to interact with your R1 continuously until you press the PTT button again. This would be incredibly useful in situations where your hands are occupied, ensuring you can still communicate seamlessly with your R1.
This solution could work well for everyone. While some features might seem inspired by phone usage, they ultimately serve to enhance efficiency.
Let’s consider another scenario: You’re on a 5-hour drive, and you don’t have time to make frequent stops or drive slowly. You’re alone in the car, which means you have to press the PTT button for each interaction with your R1. If a conversation mode were activated, you could have someone—or in this case, your R1—to “talk to.” This would help pass the time, provide valuable information for your destination, and even read or send messages on the go. It would be a perfect tool for those long journeys.

I like your take on this. It keeps the usability of the device basically the same and yet adds functionality.
We would still need to physically reach out to the device and hold down the button, both to start and stop the action. That feels like a ritual, a simple action that gets the user in a certain headspace and yet we get an increased functionality by adding a series of button clicks.
This is a seriously good idea.
Honestly, if we could apply (in principle) the same idea of morse code, there could be a good number of functions accesible just by clicking that single button. Ok, it will take some getting used to but the whole paradigm of this device is getting used to something completely different from everything else.

Oh! sounds like the ‘morse code’ idea has already been around. All I meant is morse code inspired not actual morse code. Very similar to what @alex.hent suggested.
An always listening feature activated or de-activated by voice command would detract from the experience of the r1. I do agree it would be comfortable, being able to talk to the device without having to actually reach out for it would be very natural.
I get the feeling that the team want to keep the device as simple and as bare as possible.
