I am quite concerned and confused about the move to OS3 and the new BYOK model, and I would appreciate some clarification from Rabbit. When I bought my R1, one of the important promises was that there would be no subscription and that the AI functionality would remain available without additional ongoing costs. Rabbit has repeatedly advertised the R1 with statements such as “no subscription” and even “unlimited AI at no extra cost.” However, the current OS3 documentation says that OS3 runs on an API key provided by the user and that, while OS3 itself is free, users have to pay their model provider according to that provider’s pricing. These two statements seem difficult to reconcile: “Unlimited AI at no extra cost” versus “Bring your own API key and pay your model provider for usage.” I understand that advanced new features, additional models or optional third-party services may involve additional costs. That would be perfectly reasonable. What concerns me is whether the basic AI functionality that was part of the R1 when we purchased it is now being replaced by a system that requires us to pay an external AI provider. So I would appreciate a clear answer to the following question: Can existing R1 owners continue to use the basic/general AI functionality of their R1 without providing a paid API key, as they have been able to do until now? Or will using the R1 as a general AI assistant eventually require either a paid third-party API key or running our own local LLM? If the latter is the case, I would consider this a significant change to the product I originally purchased. I did not buy the R1 with the expectation that I would later have to pay OpenAI, Anthropic or another provider for every AI request. I am not opposed to OS3 or BYOK as an additional option. In fact, having the ability to choose our own models is interesting. But BYOK as an optional expansion is very different from BYOK becoming a requirement for functionality that was originally advertised as included with the device. It would therefore be very helpful if Rabbit could clearly explain how “unlimited AI at no extra cost” applies to existing R1 owners under OS3, and exactly which functions, if any, will remain available without a user-supplied API key. ---

equally concverned as it has evolved into something I would not have purchased and my attempt of downloading OS3 failed and lost access to rabbithole so is a useless piece of tech now ---

Totally agree with these concerns. I’d like to get the “Rabbit Hole” feature back so I can access the journal (especially the Magic Gallery!) ---

OS3 is horrible…certainly not what many of the user base thought they were buying into. Admittedly, this will likely please some enthusiasts…those with the API keys and experience to know what they are getting into…but most people just want a rudimentary AI agent that works as it has. Perhaps OS3 should have been saved for a separate product line, or service, while retaining core functionality. Personally, having had this for only a few months, I feel like I have been conned. Not a great feeling. ---

I hope we could bring back the previous functionalities of OS2 and the rabbit hole… I don’t mind donating my BYOK tokens to power it though. I have grown fond of the custom interface, custom voice, custom shortcut and etc. In my view the Rabbit R1 is a hyper-personalized device (and it was a first in the market). This is something that nothing in the market as of now. I could flexibly spin up a custom AI view for myself just by a few prompts. That’s a gold mine that not any other companies could do in my opinion.
