# getting started with DLAM on r1

Hi all! As you’ve seen, we’ve just released an exciting new feature for r1 - DLAM, the first plug-and-play computer controller 💥

We wanted to prepare a few tips on how to get started.
- First, plug your r1 into your computer, and navigate to dlam.rabbit.tech in your computer browser (Chrome or Edge, please - other browsers may or may not support it right now)
- Click the window share icon on the bottom right, select entire screen and click share.
- The first time you connect, the browser will request permission from you to use your microphone on DLAM. Please select “Allow while visiting the site” when prompted.
- A small window will pop up towards the top of the browser and ask you to connect to r1. Click where it says r1 and then click connect.
- Click the microphone icon to unmute
- Now you can talk to DLAM and ask for help in anything from desktop, to browser, to any applications!
- You can mute the mic if you don’t want to keep talking to it! And you can also click the keyboard icon if you’d rather type a prompt.
Please note the following points so you can get the best results from DLAM:
- DLAM is optimised for 16:9 widescreen monitors. Other aspect ratios may not work optimally.
- If you have multiple monitors, you need to make sure DLAM is seeing the right one when you share. On Windows, make sure you are sharing the primary display, as this is the safest method.
On macOS, the mouse pointer needs to be on the same screen that’s being shared if there’s multiple connected.

What are some of the use cases that have been tested? For me even checking windows updates has it going around unpausing youtube videos and closing outlook instead of doing the task. What is the expected usecase here?

Not sure where to post some (possible) bugs but here are three:
- If the mouse buttons are inverted (I’m lefty) then it mostly brings up the context menu instead of clicking where it should.
- If the keyboard layout is other than en-US then you get wrong text output when dlam is typing.
- Sometimes the given task is completed (write a note in some app, set a calendar event, etc) but dlam is still trying to execute or finalize it without really mentioning it. This in turn creates confusion as I’m not sure what’s going on with my mouse or apps.
Otherwise I had fun with it, as it is literally plug & play (& enjoy), but it’s still quite slow and while it’s doing what it’s doing, you can’t really do anything else without messing it’s flow.. and then it takes even longer to finish a task. It’s promising, but not there yet.

On my windows laptop it simply is not seeing the R1? Any ideas? Strangely on the Mac it was fine!

Resolved this issue now… was not the R1 but a laptop PC that needed a full restore!

I tried that, but it doesn’t understand, just wants to “fix the mouse settings for you”, instead of actually considering the buttons are inverted and use them as such.
Same for the keyboard, but it’s less noticeable, since most of the keys have the same position as a US layout, dlam types mostly ok, but still broken. Special chars or punctuation is almost always wrong.

Hi All, I have tried, but it’s not possible to make r1 visible. Does anyone have the same issue? And how can I resolve it?

I have the same or a similar issue it connects with the R1 but shows “Voice only”. There is no dialogue / pop-up, or option to allow remote control. It can “see” the screen but not control it.
I tried this using Chrome and Edge, same behaviour.

Check your cable as not all cables carry data, some are just power. I had the same issue and a full reboot of the PC sorted it.
