# “checking update” screen stalled

My R1 has a persistent “checking update” screen. It is powered and connected to fast wifi and it has been two days with no change and I cannot use the R1.

I tried switching wireless networks and there is no way to get past the update screen. There is no documentation I can find to hard reset the device.

What do I do?
