Interestingly mine picked Luna as a name lol. Its hard…but you can convince it to pick one for itself!

The R1 acted as if I could give it a name. I did it named it ‘witty’ but after 5x ptt it doesn’t know it’s name anymore.
Hope we get robust long term memory…

I used to have mine permanently named “Rhea”, but the settings navigation OTA removed the name recall. It did survive memory wipes and reboots in the past, but now I can’t even add a new name.
Update: after the mini OTA before teach mode alpha, there appears to be an interesting name change process that’s hardwired as a trick on r1. Try asking your companion to change its name.

I named my R1 Caerbannog and when asking Caerbannog it thought it was a funny and appropriate nod to pop culture. If you know, you know. LOL

Oh, and what happens when you ask ‘what is your name’? I think the R1 can’t memorize it

it remembers its name. when i ask “what is your name?” it responds with “My name is Caerbannog.” if i also ask “do you know what your name is a reference to and do you like your name?” Caerbannog responds with it is a playful reference to Monty Python and the Holy Grail and the killer rabbit of Caerbannog. I find the name quite amusing and fitting."

I can give my rabbit a name, Aiva, but it forgets it after short time and answers with “how can I help you”.

I’m wondering if there is a system in place to ‘remind’ things. Since that definitely doesn’t work for me.

Still, my R1 is unable to remember a name. This is disheartening.
In our most recent discord meeting at the launch of LAM playground, I recall Jesse saying that r1 shouldn’t have issues with remembering a name, and that this was a feature added to the r1. Is anyone able to get their r1 to recall its name after resets on the 20241011 update?

to clarify, r1’s name is one of the only things it can “remember” permanently without a recall because there is an API/tool call that writes and returns the name of r1. For non techies: basically there is a special function for the name. But I noticed in the recent months that its hard for r1 to use/write this name now. I think the team is moving away from supporting this feature but I’m not too sure. Asking the r1 for its name now doesn’t return the result of this tool call anymore, it just gives a generic answer.
